Hello! I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT ), EMDR trained, with 19 years' experience in mental health. Performance psychology naturally informs my general outlook, promoting both engagement and comfort in what can be an intense process.
I graduated from The Manhattan School of Music with a Master's in Voice Performance in 1993, and from Phillips Graduate Institute with a Master's in Psychology in 2006. I have since worked in private practice, as a Crisis Team member, and extensively within the hospital system at all levels of care (outpatient, IOP/PHP, inpatient, RTC/Detox.) As a consultant, I have written behavioral/placement/aftercare recommendations for developmentally disabled and mentality ill (DDMI)/Regional Center clients, and I have served as a Mental Health Therapist II in an acute psychiatric unit in Corrections. In 2023, I completed EMDR training at the EMDR Center of the Rockies, and in 2024 and 2025 I enjoyed guest lecturing in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at the Rossier School of Education (USC.)
Musically, I am excited to be collaborating with a phenomenal new partner and can be found digging daily through the Great American Songbook. My domestic partner and I have recently started hosting bimonthy musical salons and enjoy simple pleasures such as language play, history, our pets and tracking the escapades of our adult children. On a personal note, I enjoy walking on grass in bare feet and about half of the stand-up comedians I see on YouTube.
Hello, my name is Eva or Dr. E (as my students call me.) I have worked in the mental health field since 1986 and became a Licensed Marriage in 1999. I completed my undergrad and graduate work from California State University Long Beach. And after a long educational hiatus to work and raise children, I completed my Educational Doctorate from the University of Southern California in 2022 (Fight On!)
I have worked in various capacities in the mental health field over the past 39 years. From inpatient psychiatric services to outpatient community clinics to private practice, I have been blessed to work with various people, of various ages, from various communities providing both mental health and substance abuse interventions.
Outside of private practice, I am a psychiatric first responder, visiting emergency rooms and assisting people in psychiatric crisis. I am also a part-time lecturer for the USC Rossier School of Education’s Marriage and Family Therapy program. A strong social justice program, Rossier allows me to teach decolonized critical thinking and the decolonization of the therapy process.
On a more personal note, I have been in recovery and sober since 1987. As a queer Xicana, I am a mother to four and partner to one. My family is my core. I have a love for women’s basketball, both college and pro. I have two dogs and a cat that occupy most of my free time.
