Congratulations on taking this major step towards seeking a higher quality of life, whether for yourself or a loved one! Speaking on behalf of the Petrichor family (bios and pics of the team are coming soon), we welcome you to our website!
Petrichor Healing Family Therapy, Inc. was founded upon a dream to bring nature's wisdom into the session room. When life-giving rain falls upon dry land, a combination of geosmin and ozone are naturally released, giving the familiar and centering scent of fresh rain. While ozone has no natural odor, geosmin is so powerful that it can be detected in minute parts, miles away. Most people find this aroma to be comforting, pleasing, and grounding. Some people, however, do not.
This naturally occurring event can be used as a metaphor for therapy. Life can be difficult; we can struggle to keep our heads above water, and sometimes we start to feel hard and brittle, like dry land. With some refreshing input to help us restore balance, we begin to naturally release who we are. Perhaps some of what results will be kept private, not clearly detectible by others, while some changes may become strong identifiers of who we are and how far we can go; together, they form a fresh assertion of self into the world.
As with anything real, many people around you will accept and enjoy these changes. Others may not, and that's okay, too. Our goal is to bring wellness and health to our clients by way of resilience and re-established balance so they can release to the world the esse, or true nature, of who they are.
Many people feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, hopeless, helpless and/or mentally foggy. Families often scramble to maintain a quality of life while managing the ripple effect of one member’s mental illness. While many people can identify the source(s) of their concerns, others feel a vague, lingering discontent. We have worked with hundreds of clients to help them identify what they actually want and what might help them move forward.
Your concerns require a unique, targeted approach to building goals. Self-care is critical. Our work together will be devoted to helping you identify and implement ways to feel happier and stronger in your daily life.

Some common areas of focus are helping clients resolve stress related to grief/loss/trauma, multi-generational ripple effects of mental illness and trauma, intentional life reconstruction, and blended and bi/multi-cultural families. I am heavily invested in the health and welfare of the LGBTQ population, clients who are transitioning, and parenting LGBTQ children. Many clients struggle with social displacement, loss of status, rebuilding in mid-life, and and concerns specific to aging.
Once we discover what motivates you, we mutually decide upon your path forward. We explore unconscious motivations, then work on implementing preferred choices. While EMDR can be life-changing, some clients benefit from a more cognitive approach to resolving practical concerns. Understanding attachment history, through an Adlerian lens, can help clients explore their sense of placement in the world. ACT, DBT, CBT, Stoicism and Positive Psychology offer tools for intentional change.

As an LMFT with 18 years' experience in mental health, I draw from various modalities to work with adult individuals on recovery from trauma, mood regulation, stabilization of daily activities, adjustment to life changes, and the implementation of healthy coping skills. I am EMDR-trained and believe strongly in the power of creativity, hope and attachment.
I graduated from Phillips Graduate Institute in 2006, and have since worked in private practice, as a Crisis Team member, and extensively within the hospital system, where I helped clients and their families understand how to maximize treatment value at various levels of care (outpatient, IOP/PHP, inpatient, RTC/Detox.) during the full spectrum experience of psychiatric treatment. As a consultant, I have written behavioral/ placement/ aftercare recommendations for developmentally disabled and mentality ill (DDMI)/Regional Center clients, and I have served as a mental health therapist in the acute psychiatric unit for corrections.
In addition to being a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I have a Master’s Degree in Music and a strong interest in performance psychology; while I do not provide Music Therapy per se, this additional angle to my background often promotes both engagement and comfort in what can be an intense process.
I currently provide telehealth sessions throughout California for adults 18-65+. In-person, individual sessions in Los Alamitos, California will become available in the near future.
Session fees are $200 for 60 minutes and $175 for 45 minutes. I offer a limited number of sliding-scale sessions per week.
I also accept the following insurances:
Aetna
Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield
